Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (AOP) form the backbone of eye care delivery, managing nearly 80% of clinical processes across hospitals and outreach settings—ranging from refraction and assistance in clinics and operating theatres to patient education and spectacle dispensing.

Structured training, role clarity and continuous education are essential for building a competent AOP cadre. Find programmes, tools and training resources to strengthen your AOP training.

Capacity Building

LAICO offers a Capacity Building Programme for Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (AOP) Training designed to help eye hospitals deliver high-quality, competency-based education. Drawing on decades of experience from Aravind Eye Care System, LAICO supports institutions in transitioning from traditional training models to a structured, patient-centred approach that ensures AOPs are truly competent in real-world clinical tasks .

The six-month engagement focuses on strengthening curricula, teaching methods, skill practice, and assessments, supported by Aurosiksha, LAICO’s digital Learning Management System. Through training-of-trainers workshops, on-site and remote support, and standardized digital resources, institutions are equipped to independently run effective AOP training programmes with improved documentation, monitoring, and outcomes. The result is a sustainable training system that builds skilled AOPs, enhances service quality, and supports efficient eye care delivery.
